The Sustainable Infrastructure Society (SIS) is a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia in 2005. The incorporation of the Society was sponsored by the then BC Ministry of Health, specifically to deliver programs to assist community water supply systems. We have a Board of Advisors made up of representatives from the key regional water supply associations such as WSABC, SWUABC,  and CWSA. Following incorporation in 2005 SIS undertook a variety of projects sponsored by the Ministry, examples of which include: development of a Boil Water Notice management strategy and examination of the use of Point of Entry water treatment.

We operate programs for community water supply organizations that aim to be financially self-sustaining; that is the income earned from the program is sufficient to cover the costs of development and operation. Our Liability Insurance program for community water supply systems is a good example. The program has been in operations for several years and has helped many community water supply systems around BC to obtain affordable and flexible insurance.  The programs currently under development by SIS will offer a range of other important resources including affordable water treatment and access to funding.  We are now extending services to other provinces in Canada.
